Tuesday Things

on

I was thinking today as I was sitting in a conference room waiting for my meeting to arrive about things that annoy me – pet peeves, if you will. Nothing like making lemons out of lemonade – or at least blog material.

Things that annoy me, in no particular order:

  1. That tickle you get in the back of your throat when you have a cold, but not necessarily a chest cold. So you spend the whole night hacking….not that I would know anything about that.
  2. Silence. Ranks right up there with a response of “K” when you were hoping for something more articulate. Silence results in more questions then answers. And the questions are never the good ones.
  3. The Blame Game. This has been overplayed at work recently. I spent 2 hours yesterday watching two groups have a pissing contest over who would actually get the work done. It was someone else’s problem or someone else who is to blame. In the end, I jumped in, did it, setup the security so that everyone on both sides can do it in the future, then distributed the report and the info that it is now in everyone’s court. Total time spent: 5 minutes.  It’s not productive.
  4. Tardiness. This is mostly for appointments.  In a social situation, I’m less of a stickler unless we have a time we have to be somewhere.  I’m not one of these “my time is more valuable” people, but there does hit a point where people who are late do waste my time. Oh, and I hate being late myself, so my own rule applies to me as well.
  5. A half-assed job – as my dad would put it. Do it right or don’t do it at all. Do a half-assed job, and it’ll just piss me off.  Mostly because it shows you don’t care. Plus, not being complete usually creates more work down the road. And I just want it done and done well one time.
Things that make me smile, because I’m not just a negative person:
  1. Unexpected compliments from unexpected people. I had a manager yesterday tell me he was in awe of how I handle situations and deserve more money. Out of left field and based on the conversations he had overheard.
  2. Text messages from friends saying “they were just thinking of me and thought they would tell me that”.
  3. When I’m reading a book and I come across a line that just sits in my brain in a meaningful way – a line that speaks to me on a personal level through insight.
  4. Random, out of the blue, sexy messages. How can you not smile and squirm a bit from that?  I mean, a grrl also likes to be woo’d.
  5. When a plan comes together as I have envisioned it.  LOVE that. That goes for work, personal, family, whatever. I love the feeling when it comes together in a positive way.  Great satisfaction.

  1. I love it when a plan comes together too! Or wait, maybe that’s Hannibal? But didn’t he cross the Alps on some elephants or something? Jesus, what was I talking about again? I dunno. Prolly nothing important.

Random sex is also good. Though if I had my druthers I’d prefer the sex to be common enough that non-sex was the random bit. But I may have issues…

On tardiness at work: It is not that my time is more valuable. It is that coming late to a meeting is disrespectful to everyone else on the meeting. Doing so wastes our time, regardless of value.

i’m all about # on the first list. you’re dad is a smart man. it’s something i try teaching my kids.

and also the tardiness thing. i worked with a girl that was ALWAYS late. like not, 2 minutes or so, more like 15. and worse, once she got in there, she’d not settle until she got a plate full of food if it was available. if not, she brought a plate of her own. fucking weird. it didn’t matter what time of the day it was either, she had food.

not only did she have a late issue, she’s got an eating disorder.

should have said # 5 of the first list….

I absolutely LOVE seeing lines that stick in my head for days. Books, movies, blogs…

    Great post. As usual. 🙂

I usually love silence but that kind of silence makes me stabby.

  7. I always love the random naughty text! It makes me smile.

  8. Vixen says:

The random naughty text! Or the random one that just causes you to smile. I live for those 🙂

#3 on the ‘good’ list. That happens to me too.

Oh that god damn tickle. I hate it. no matter how hard you cough, you could sound like a friggin seal, and still it is there. I find sucking on an ice cube can help with that sometimes.
