Day 122 – Sailing

Tonight they were holding a sailboat race on the Columbia River.  As I took pictures, the girls were asking me about sailing. I was answering them as I snapped shots. Finally Indigo asked “do you know how to sail?”  I do. “When did you stop sailing?” When Grandpa sold his boat. “I wish we could learn to sail.” Maybe one day you will.

I walked over to where Garbanzo stood. Without looking at me, he said, “I miss sailing. I don’t miss my dad’s boat, but I do miss sailing. Look at that – how much fun it is to be out there. Hear that sound of the lines being released as they jibe? I love the sound of the winches as they pull it back in close. Such a great sound!” Oh, I totally agree.

Funny. I have the same feelings about the sailboats that I have about my VW. I want the freedom. The feeling of wind rushing past my ears. The possibilities. The adventures.
