I love our yellow lab. While a sweet dog, he is protective where his girls are concerned. This is where I found him when I came into the room – watching them play in the front yard.  I guarantee you – if someone came by that he did not like, he would have been through that screen door in a heartbeat. I know. That screen has been replaced several times since we bought it. Each time because the dog decided he needed to protect a kid. Small price to pay living in the city with kids, in my opinion.
