Day 191 – Where Rivers Meet

on
The husband and I found ourselves without kids today.  A Saturday – a gorgeous Saturday at that, without kids was an awesome surprise.  We took advantage of it …in several ways….but also decided to go to where the Willamette and Columbia Rivers meet.

There are many  of these various old break water posts as well as old dock posts standing weathered in the water. This was on the Willamette side.

Not sure the story with this anchor, but it has clearly been there for a while given how it is in the sand. I’m guessing it may be from the old dredging ships that keeps these parts of the rivers deep for the shipping vessels.

Areas of the park were covered in cotton from the cotton wood trees. It was almost like snow in some areas.

Hard to see, but Mt Hood is in the background behind that ship. Portland is considered an international shipping port. Always forget that.

I think this must have been part of an old shipping tie that washed ashore.

After our day here and some errands, we went to Trek in the Park. Trek in the Park is an event where a group of actors reenact old original Star Trek episodes with a minimal set. There is a captain’s char, a doorway for leaving the bridge and any other part of the ship, and the crew all sit in their chairs pretending to be on the controls. And the sound effects guys do a great job with giving audio to fill in the missing visual. My favorite audio part: the fact they make the door sound opening and closing – that swish sound.  It is hilarious. Khan was the episode today. It was great. I am NOT a Star Trek fan, but I do enjoy these. It’s funny how the episode became sort of a parody of itself. So cool!

Garbanzo has decided he wants me to dress in this red female officer uniform…but with better boots. Original uniforms where the dress barely covered their ass.  Uhm…no.

I guess I’ll add this to his list of “costumes” he (and at least one other) would like to see me in.  Wonder woman is currently at the top of the list, in case you were wondering.

Damn Geeky Boys….

Trek in the Park? With chicks wearing outfits like that, I could be talked into going 😉

I’m glad you and Garbonzo enjoyed a kid-free day!

  2. Beautiful river photos. I really like the one of the cotton on the ground, makes me want to go there and see it for myself.

I’d pass on that uniform too. lol. Wonder Woman? She’s pretty cool. I mean, she has an invisible jet. I might consider it. 😉

Oh what I wouldn’t give to see both water AND mountains in person.

I’ve dated lots of geeks but have yet to be asked to dress up in Trek stuff. Thankfully.

  5. It was hard to see Mt Ranier the weekend I visited Coy Pink but we were a little farther away than you 🙂

That Trek outfit is uh…wow. short. I’ll take a front row seat sitting on the ground please 😀

Ugh… I’m deathly allergic to cottonwood. Just seeing that picture made my eyes itch!

Great river pictures! Looks like it was a great day to be childless!

The photo of the ship in port with the mountain in the background is wonderful!

I would have to side with Garbonzo and Hubman–the original Trek costume were very sexy! I’m confident that you would be stunning in red (with even better boots).

Speaking of Wonder Woman, what do you think of her new look?

    So pretty.

My sister and brother in law used to live in this area for a long time before they moved here. They always tell me how beautiful it is.

What do you think?
