Don’t Settle for Less

on

Do not settle.

Do not settle for that job because you think it’s all you can get.

Do not settle for that relationship because you think it’s all you can get.

Do not settle for anything.

You deserve more.

You deserve the best.

You deserve love and great sex and the house with the picket fence.

You deserve to be surrounded by people who love and support you.

To be surrounded by people who accept you for who you are.

You deserve to get as much back as you give to others.

You deserve happiness.

Life is way too short to sell yourself short.

I never said it was easy.

Trust me, it is never easy.

There will be bumps along the way.

There will be people who get in your way – and not in the good way.

There will be set backs.

It is the way life works.

Set your sights high and don’t be satisfied until you get there.

Because true happiness isn’t going to just fall in your lap, you must seek it.

You must work for it.

You must ask yourself the hard questions.

You must be willing to make the hard decisions.

You must be prepared to go through the hard stuff, not around it.

And when you go through the hard stuff, the other side is that much better.

And you become that much stronger.

Do not settle.

Settling is giving up.

Settling is saying “I don’t deserve anything better than this.”

And we all do.

We all deserve what we want.

What we want is out there, it just may not look like you expected it to look.

It just may not be where you expected it to be.

Just don’t settle.

Because:

“The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for.”
~Maureen Dowd

  1. I settled once. I took “pretty good” because I didn’t think “fucking awesome” was out there.

“Fucking awesome” IS OUT THERE, and one day, with patience, and pride, and great love, I WILL FIND IT!

  2. This is so true and it always makes me sad to see people settle.

Awesome is out there, its just not always right in front of you.

  4. While I understand and agree with the sentiment, too many people use this idea as an excuse to be aholes. The trick is knowing the difference between settling and being happy with what you have.

RLoTFC – I generally find those a-holes don’t need to hear this as they are already in that space. Alis they believe the world owes it to them which is wrong too. My audience for this are those good people who get frustrated by life and consider settling. And I’m not talking being happy w/ what they have. That would be a different post 🙂

  6. Thank you! This has made my day! And the Same goes for you. I have your back!

Thank you so much for that post. You’re right, you should never settle, thank you for spurring me on.

I wish I’d had this advice back when I was a twenty year old. Now that I’m in my do over stage of life, it has become my motto.
BTW, hi, I found you through elust.

  9. Do not settle. Are speaking directly to me? I think so :). Great post and great thoughts.
