Week in Review

Thanks to everyone for their comments yesterday on HNT! It is always fun seeing new faces intermingled with the usual crowd.  Not that I dislike the usual crowd; quite the contrary really. 🙂

Today, I interview for a contract job at a non-profit that does work on ‘green initiatives’.  When I did the phone interview before New Year’s, I was asked 2 questions in a span of one hour.  That didn’t both me too much because IT people when interviewing for a job that may suck tend to spend more time explaining the situation to see if the person gets scared away than actually ask questions. Basically this is a situation where an executive has a great idea, started down the path, and now IT is trying to catch up.  I get the impression there is some distrust or problems between this executive and IT.  But, from what they have explained of the project, the executive has the right idea.  Could be an interesting interview….especially, since I got a few questions they want me to be prepared for.  Out of the six they sent, three were related to managing conflict between people on the team.  This could be fun.

If you are sick of hearing that “I Gotta Feeling” song by the Black Eyed Peas – the anthem about going out and partying as I’ve heard it described.  Check out the parody of it.  Hilarious!!

Oh, can I just say I hate the fact they won’t allow me to embed that video into this post? Sorry….I find that annoying.

I got to call Animal Control yesterday about a loose pit bull running through the neighborhood. I went out to get my mail, and it decided to try to come up the stairs after me.  Then a neighbor was walking from the bus and was almost attacked three times.  Animal Control responded in 5 minutes – faster than the police most days. I think the owner had it by that time and was talked to about keeping it locked up.  Two hours later, it was out again and tried to go after another neighbors.  Not good.  We have way too many kids in the neighborhood for that to happen.  Guess we’ll have to keep an eye on this one. At least the number is on my phone now.

We have a play date on Sunday. The couple we play with is alone in the house again. I think they contacted us right after she moved out.  We are both very excited about seeing them again. While they don’t play like TL and I do, it is nice to have variety.  Plus, they are fun.

I got to explain to my daughters about pole dancing yesterday. I guess that DJ saw a headline about Miley Cyrus pole dancing and wanted to know what it was.  I explained it, explained where it is usually done, answered questions, etc.  I get done, and Indigo exclaims, “well, I would dance naked if they gave me money.”  Clearly my explanation went sideways somewhere along the way – or I should have been more careful when dealing with the nudist in the house.  I decided long ago to just be open and honest about shit with the kids.  Why? Demystify it early so it doesn’t become this big secret later or a shameful thing.  Generally speaking, my parents did a great job with it.  Like I said, this explanation backfired a bit.

Speaking of parents, they were up for a visit on Tuesday. Garbanzo’s reaction when he heard they were visiting: “Damn, I was looking forward to taking HNT pictures!”  It did make taking them more of a challenge, especially since I could have used the tripod that was in the closet in the spare bedroom. Clearly, we made do. But, it was sort of a “damn” moment.

Hope everyone had a great Friday!

I can just imagine the explanation of pole dancing. *snort* I’m pretty honest with my kids and it does cause me to kick myself occasionally for it. 😉
