Day 340 – Camera Toss

A few days ago, I came across this article about an idea called Camera Toss. It produced some interesting pictures – and forced me to learn exactly how I control shutter speed on my camera. Until now I accidentally figured it out but usually couldn’t control it. Thanks to this book:

I also learned a couple other neat tricks that I hope to use next time I take some landscape and portrait pictures. I guess taking the book off the shelf after several years was a good idea.

Now, I should first admit, that I did NOT toss my camera.  I actually simulated it.  I have, on accident, dropped my camera 3 times in the 3 years I’ve owned it.  Each time, my heart has stopped each time it has happened.  I simulated the effect instead.  Using the Christmas tree as a light source, the following images resulted.

I have about 30 others that are pretty neat too.  I am looking forward to trying this at the Zoo Lights when we take the girls to see them.  Could be interesting.

I did the camera toss with an older camera a few years back and liked the results. I don’t think I’m brave enough to do that with my D70 though. I just love it way too much to risk dropping it.

I love your simulations above. Very, very cool.

I think you have inspired me to actually play around with my camera to learn more about what it can do.

What do you think?
