About this time of year, it seems as though the spiders go crazy outside of our house. The other day near the chicken coop, I found a spider whose body was the size of a quarter. It was amazing – and located in a bad place. So, I moved it to the tree so it can live. I will kill them, but this was a case where there was no need. And, I do believe in keeping the ecology in balance. Kill all of the spiders, and some other insect will thrive in annoying and crazy ways.
Today, I came home from DJ’s soccer game, and we found this amazing spider web on the front porch. And in the middle was a large spider.
The spider is still there. We’ve left her alone. She’s not hurting anything, and her web is pretty cool.
What I do laugh about is the fact Garbanzo has decided when we are done watching her – he’s going to feed her to the chickens. I’ve mentioned that Garbanzo is a Buddhist Vegetarian who lives by the mantra “do no harm”, right?

Neato, great photo! I really like big spiders. 🙂
Spiders outside have my complete protection.. They spin gorgeous webs and eat bugs.. It’s all good..
However, one comes into my house and y’all will find out just how much of a Buddhist I’m not!! :):)
No, I am not feeding random insects to the chickens. I am feeding random insects that are in the wrong place (i.e. inside the house) to the chickens.
I had a spider looking just like that outside my bedroom window. She had a ‘nest’ she was ‘harvesting’ that I wasn’t very pleased about. Unfortunately she blew away in a really bad wind storm we had.
As much of an arachnophobe as I am, I don’t like killing/hurting the spiders outside the house.
