Great Rant about Modern Feminism
Ms Emily McCombs, Executive Editor @xojanedotcom, wrote the following rant about her frustrations with modern feminism.
-
Modern feminism decided that instead of fighting the patriarchy, we’d just police each other’s patriarchy-induced desires instead.
-
Our job as feminist women today isn’t to fight against inequality, it’s to hide any part of ourselves that doesn’t fit the party line.
-
We’re not allowed to be messy, conflicted, to diet, yearn for love enjoy being objectified. To be products of the culture we were born to.
-
Being honest and being real have become verboten in feminist circles, especially online.
-
The conversations we have in private, about our bodies, about our boyfriends, must not be part of our public “feminist” persona.
-
A lot of WOC are getting it way more right than white feminism in this regard. Working on issues instead of policing sexuality, bodies, etc.
-
What good is feminism if we’re just liberated to pretend to be perfect for our whole lives? To reject what we enjoy if it’s “un-feminist”?
-
What good is feminism if it means cutting away parts of ourselves? And how does that even change anything about sexism or society?
-
And then when you ask this, ask who this rigidity is hurting and helping, you get sneered at for “choosing your choice.”
-
We are all of us problematic as shit. Let’s be honest, let’s talk it through, let’s place blame where it belongs.

I love this. Like a lot. Thank you for sharing it.
When I read it on twitter, I knew I had to post it. It is so incredibly true – we need to redefine feminism to be inclusive not exclusive based on the feelings of a few.
