Friday Wrap Up & Field Trip

on

A good summary of my week. Okay, I DO give a fuck. That is my problem. But, it has been a long, LONG time since someone has gotten me to a point where I was ready to tell them they were a fucking dumb ass who has no fucking idea what he’s doing like I did this week.

Let me use an analogy that people will understand to explain what has been occurring at work. Imagine the system is like a car. And when making a change to the car – new tires, maybe upgraded suspension – we encountered an issue. An issue that doesn’t make sense. But it is resolved, and we go after doing the change again. But, this time, this time, we discover that the installation is weird. We find out that someone made a mistake. We fix it, and try again. This time, a new issue appears – an issue that looks totally unrelated to the first issue or the installation. So we take it back to the mechanic who spends a bunch of time trying to figure out what is happening now.  Finally, today, we figured out what was happening. And we were able to fix it.  We started this process mid-May.  It should have taken 3 days. I think we’re well beyond it.

IT people know that this is the shit that happens – you can’t do much about it – and you’re fucked until you can figure out what is really causing this to happen. You need to keep trying until you can get things to happen together or in a certain order so that you know where to look. Sometimes it’s like a light bulb going on. Other times, it is seriously dumb luck that points you the way. This was kinda dumb luck. I don’t care, it’s done.

But executives – executives – they don’t understand or care. And despite the fact you’ve been telling them for months we are behind, it takes this for them to really, truly get it.  Toss in the executive yelling, screaming and generally being an ass – and I was literally weighing my options between getting fired and just quitting. I opted to go more towards quitting, but I was temporarily talked off the ledge. Getting the issue resolved, definitely helps. But we will definitely see what happens in the future.

Between work and the crap happening at home, it has been a very long week. It is almost like our kids sense the stress we’re under because they have been SUPER goofy. DJ decided I would make a good chicken. She drew this in a restaurant where we went to eat while my husband was at a meeting.

Indigo has been making up weird songs to make us all laugh. You know it’s funny when she can’t finish the sentence.

And they both shared with me their weird stories. It seems that DJ has been inviting Indigo into her room at night for magical stories. Last night’s story was called Annie and the Dragon. A dragon was wandering around the world causing problems – when she came upon one of our chickens – Ms P – who she grabs to make fun of. She scares Ms P so much that she starts shooting eggs out of her butt. Annie (the guinea pig) sees what is happening and decides she is going to take action. She charges the dragon with her numbchucks and escrima sticks and her little short sword (because she’s into taekwondo). She scares the dragon so bad that she drops Ms P and runs away knowing if she comes back that Annie will slay her. The End. Yeah.

And the husband and I have been watching season 1 of Big Bang Theory. It’s been nice to spend most of the evening laughing. Oh and another thing that’s making us laugh: DontEvenReply.com – a site posting the email correspondence between online sellers and a guy who is only out to fuck with them.  I have to give it to him – he takes fucking with them to an almost artistic level. Go look at it.  It’s addicting but you won’t regret it.

So that has been my week. Crazy and stressful. This weekend will be more of the same. Oh well….the school year is almost done.  And who knows, maybe I’ll be unemployed by then. Hmm….

  1. I hope that your weekend is not stressful. This week has seemed to have gone on for a freakin year for lots of us.

    Hugs!

I love how kids just know when you’ve had a bad week and what to do to make you laugh. Having a strong family support system makes it a little easier to tolerate the stupidity at work, doesn’t it?

Hang in there, hopefully you can turn the corner next week!

Oh, that might be the best quote (up top) that I’ve heard in a long time!

I’m sorry you’re having a stressful week! Going to look at that site now …

So sorry you had a bad week.. Glad you had the munchkins to cheer you up!!
And if you follow Princessa’s advice, photo op!!! :):):)

  7. I hear ya when the execs start screaming. Make you feel like you’ve been sitting on your thumbs when you’ve been busting tail to fix it. I’ve got that right now. I’ve been tempted to throw the thing at the boss and tell him to deal with it if I’m sucking so bad at it. There has to be a major issue when you stump everyone in the US and it escalated to Japan.

Here’s to hoping your work settles down! And remember, F-Disk is your friend!
