Day 143 – New Ladies

on
Meet our new ladies….

This is Giada. She is going to be like her namesake – oddly attractive yet way too sleak for her breed. She is a cross between two breeds. An experiment from the breeder.

And this is Julia Childs. She is a Jersey Giant. It’ll take her 2 years to get to her full size.

Our current ladies are being weird. Strutting around – intimidating the little pullets (aka teenage chickens). We separated them just to keep things safe for them both. Tonight, after the older ladies go to bed, we’ll toss the younger ones into the coop. Then, early in the morning, we’re going to wake them up by making a lot of noise to shake them all up a bit. Why? We read the at it can mess up the pecking order a bit -allowing for the younger ones to be more accepted. Nothing like a little stress to bring them together. Or at least that’s the hope. We’ll see.

New girls! We currently have 6 girls, a rooster and a PITA Guinea (well, plus 5 ducks) and they all seem to get along quite well. We introduced 4 teenage girls in the early spring and it def took some time for them to be ‘taken in’.

    Good luck with them! 🙂
