Complaints

This is the statement that is said almost daily in our house by Garbanzo:

“I don’t like this new Internet. It’s always slow.”

And, I will respond like this:

“Well, my love, we only have the following things currently connecting to the Internet:

  • 3 laptops
  • 2 iPhones
  • 2 iPod Touches
  • The Tivo
  • The Wii
I am constantly uploading pictures.  Derek is uploading pictures & video.  We all download music and browse Facebook, email, and other sites.  And Tivo is updating the schedules as well as downloading advertisements.  I think the Internet, for us, is going to be slow regardless of what service we use.”
I usually refrain from getting into the specifics about wireless and how degraded performance can get depending on the number of connections being made.  It isn’t just splitting the bandwidth in a manner one would expect.”
After I say all of this, Garbanzo will say, “Well, it’s still slow.”
“Yes, Garbanzo, it’s still slow, and it is mystery as to why.”
Then I will roll my eyes and walk away.

    My response to these questions is one of two (depending on the moon)..
    “Well, what did you want me to DO about it?”
    or
    “Then, fix it!”
    Um, neither are particularly well-received.. ;):)

    Oh honey I know your pain. Temper is also a techie so we don’t have to bombard each other with such questions at home because we already understand why…but when we’re at work? Omg, forget trying to explain that to some of these people on a corporate line or those working from home who are complaining as to why their service is slow..makes me shudder just thinking about it.
