Day 66 – Goofy

on

DJ has been in a goofy mood all day, but that’s nothing new.  Her birthday is enhancing it though.

Our friend Ms Panda came up from school to watch the kids last night, and DJ noticed right away how much she has grown.  If you think you are short, you should be Ms Panda.  She is a whole 4 foot 8 inches tall.  Technically, in the state of Oregon, at least, she should be using a booster seat to ride in the car.  I think she said something about qualifying for special driving considerations too, but that’s a whole different matter.

DJ has been standing next to Ms Panda for the past day with a stupid grin on her face.  Ms Panda just keeps turning to her and saying “yes, you are almost as tall as I am” – and shaking her head.  She knew this day would come.  She just didn’t realize how goofy DJ was going to be about it.

In an odd twist of fate, DJ and Indigo were invited to attend the birthday party of a classmate (and daughter of Garbanzo’s former coworker). How odd is that – invited to attend someone else’s party on your own birthday. We went birthday present shopping after taekwondo this morning.

Before I proceed, I must openly celebrate the fact that the Saturday morning Extreme Team practices have officially ended for the season.  We have been told that DJ has an invite for next year, but having six months of not having to get up at 7am to get her to practice on Saturday between now and then is just fine with me!

Anyway, after taekwondo, we went to the toy store in the same strip mall to find a present.  While DJ and I are looking for something appropriate, Garbanzo was having fun.  I turned around at one point, and saw this:

The blue really brings out his eyes.  I guess I found his birthday present.

And, in case you ever need a gift idea for a 8-12 year old child (boy or girl), may I recommend finding this book:

This book is hilarious, and also the reason the party ran 30 minutes long.  The kids could not stop reading it.  It has everything from the funniest knock-knock joke to how to make rubber band secret messages.  This book is 412-pages of fun.  We may have to get a copy ourselves.
I’m always hesitant in buying books for people’s kids I don’t know well.  Books can be consider by some as half a step up from underwear as a gift.  I am happy it was met with such enthusiasm because I’ve seen books get tossed in the corner at parties and kind of forgotten.  Too many other, more exciting, gifts, I guess.
